Well-Behaved Women Seldom Make History: Tales of Noah’s Wife and Esther
Saturday, September 8th, 2018, The Edina Art Center, 10-11 a.m. | Free Event!
The Edina Art Center is pleased to announce a special reading and book signing event in celebration of the Jewish holiday of Purim.
Every spring, Jews celebrate the holiday of Purim by reading The Book of Esther in synagogue and then celebrating with wine and dancing. Kanner’s reimagined version of The Book of Esther tells the story of a Jewish orphan who hid her religion and rose up to become the queen of Persia at a time when the king’s closest adviser was calling for the genocide of the Jewish people. Esther had to decide just how much she was willing to sacrifice to save her people.
“Kanner’s characters crackle to life as Esther’s tale is related in glorious detail. Razor-sharp dialog set against the backdrop of a court rife with treachery and political intrigue keep the pages turning. Esther is highly intelligent, politically savvy, and determined.” (Library Journal)
